You think The Amazing Spider-Man is going to be the same as the original? Check out the following facts; you might be surprised:

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone plopped down for a Tokyo press conference on Wednesday and offered some spicy spoilers that made quite a few fans excited for the release of The Amazing Spider-Man.

Without further ado, let’s see what the two, along with producer Avi Arad, shared:

1. Let’s Talk Family:
Peter Parker’s parents were minimally mentioned in both the comic and movie, and Arad definitely wants to delve into his life:

“After three movies, we finally got the opportunity to tell what really started Peter Parker on his journey. The fact that he lost his parents. He doesn’t know what happened to them. No one talks about them,” the producer told reporters. “So we found a very, very good story about the true origin of what makes a human being, what sets their destiny.”

2. The Secret Link Is The Lizard:
Have you ever wondered about Parker’s heritage? The Sam Raimi-directed trilogy before had focused more on Uncle Ben’s mantra, “with great powers come great responsibility,” but didn’t say much about Spider-Man’s past. This version’s Lizard AKA Dr. Curt Connors AKA Rhys Ifans is going to serve as an important key to unlocking the mystery to Peter’s parents (or at least what happened to his father).

“In the great tradition of a novel, Dr. Connor will be connected to Peter Parker,” reveals Arad. “Right there, the challenge in dealing with the villain who is also the mentor is [that he's] the only one you can look at and say ‘what really happened to my dad.’ That’s really hard to find.”

3. Stunts, Stunts, and More Stunts:
Special effects are always nice, but adding some real life action packs an emotional punch. The perfect candidate for action is Marc Webb, who brought in a legendary stunt team led by Andy Armstrong who tested Garfield physically.

“It was a great challenge and a lucky one,” recalled the actor. “A lot of the stunts are practical and grounded in reality and that was something Marc…really wanted to make sure happened in this movie and set it apart from previous ones…I had about four months of training…before we started doing any shooting where I’d exhaust myself every day and get into near-death experiences on the hour every hour.”

Webb’s practical vision will be followed strictly to even Spidey’s webs; instead of genetic webs shooting out of his wrists, Parker will have his webs shoot from mechanical devices he, being the genius he is, designed himself.

4. Move over, Mary Jane, because here comes Gwen Stacy:
Marvel fans have always been in conflict over which girl Peter truly loved; in the comics, Stacy was a secondary character whose death acted as a starter for Peter and Mary Jane’s romance. In the film, on the otherhand, the screenwriters upgraded Stacy from being a mere love interest to a real intellectual friend and rival.

Emma Stone explained the differences between her Stacy and Bryce Dallas Howard’s take on the character in Spider-Man 3: “[Howard's version] wasn’t in high school, she wasn’t Peter’s first love, she was kind of coming between Mary Jane and Peter Parker. [In the new movie] we haven’t even met Mary Jane at this point.”

5. The Hallmark Upside-Down Kiss:

Stone dodged this one for sure.

“You don’t want to know. You wanna watch the movie and find out,” said the actress, “but there is a nice first kiss and it’s different than the upside down one and we liked it.”

Japanese fans will get a first look at The Amazing Spider-Man on June 30 while US moviegoers will have to wait until July 3.

Boy are all these spoilers getting me excited! Do you guys think you’ll be watching this when it comes out in theaters? I know I will!
